How we count pages (and why it's not just paper)

Our pricing is per page — but a page isn't defined by paper size. Here's the 250-word rule and how it applies to your document.

PricingHow it works

Certified translation is industry-priced per page, and a page in the translation industry is defined as 250 words or fewer of source text — not by paper size.

Why 250 words?

It's the historical standard used by the American Translators Association and most U.S. language service providers. 250 words is what a professional translator can reasonably deliver per hour at publication quality. The unit decouples price from how densely a document happens to be printed.

Practical examples

  • A typical one-sided birth certificate: 1 page.
  • A marriage certificate with notes and stamps on the back: 1–2 pages depending on density.
  • A four-page academic transcript with dense tables: 4–6 pages.

When you upload

Our checkout shows an estimated page count. If you believe the estimate is off, submit anyway — our review team adjusts the count after the translator examines the source. If it drops, we refund the difference; if it rises significantly, we'll contact you before starting work.
